The Product Experience Lab (PXL)

The Product Experience Lab (PXL) was a student organization I founded at the San Diego State University, focused on providing students with hands-on experience in product management, UI/UX design, Solutions Consulting, and other Digital Innovation fields. This project was completed in Spring 2025, in my role as Founder of the organization.

Problem

Coming into SDSU, I knew I wanted to get involved with a career at the intersection of design, technology, and business. Discovering the field of UI/UX design and product management, I was eager to get hands-on experience in these fields. However, I found that there were very limited opportunities for students to gain this experience on-campus, and there were limited clubs or extracurricular opportunities. I started PXL to fill this gap and provide students with the resources and opportunities to explore these fields.

Initial Ideation

I started to brainstorm what this club would look like, what career fields would it tailor to, and what kind of events and projects we would do. I ideated a variety of different event ideas, from product case competitions, to design workshops, to speaker series with industry professionals. I also brainstormed different themes for the club, from product design to digital innovation to entrepreneurship.

Eventually we identified our target demographic of students interested in either Product Management, UI/UX Design, and Solutions Consulting.

Design & Branding

I began ideating different logo concepts and branding for the club. Originally called The User Experience Institute (UXI), I wanted to rebrand to something that encompassed product and consulting as well.

I decided on a logo that was both simple and sleek, with the letters of PXL forming a cube. I also made PXL a play on word for Pixel, keeping to the overall techy brand identity. I also used a blue and purple color scheme to keep a sleek and modern aesthetic.

Project Management

I led a team of 5 other students on my first executive board. Together, we ideated different events and projects for the club, and I delegated different responsibilities to my team members across marketing, event planning, finance, design, and more.

Additionally, we drafted bylaws for the club, and created an organizational structure to ensure foundational growth for future semesters.

Reflection

Throughout this project, I have gained insight into leadership, brand focused design, and entreprneurial perspective. I was able to ideate and test my idea of a new organization to help solve a student need, craft a brand identity from scratch, and lead a team of 5+ members as the founder of the club. This experience made me a better entrepreneurial leader and designer.
